What is Gemini Code Harvester?
Gemini Code Harvester is a free Chrome extension that fixes one of the most frustrating parts of working with Google's Gemini AI: collecting the code it generates.
If you've ever asked Gemini to build a web app, write a Python script, or generate a multi-file project, you know the drill. The AI delivers beautifully written code — split across 5, 8, sometimes 12 separate code blocks buried inside a long conversation. Getting all of it out means scrolling back and forth, copy-pasting file by file, and manually organising everything.
Gemini Code Harvester eliminates that entirely. It adds a floating panel directly inside the Gemini interface that lets you:
- Jump between code blocks instantly — no scrolling, just teleport directly to each file
- Copy any file in one click — with a clean confirmation so you always know what you grabbed
- Download all files as a ZIP — one click, all files named correctly, ready for your IDE
Gemini Code Harvester works entirely in your browser. Zero data collection. Zero tracking. Zero accounts. Your prompts and code never leave your device.
Why I launched on Product Hunt
Product Hunt is where developers discover new tools. It's been the launching pad for some of the most-used developer utilities on the web, and for a free Chrome extension built by a solo developer, for developers — it felt like the natural home for a first launch.
I also wanted to hear directly from the Gemini AI community. Am I solving the right problem? Is the workflow I'm targeting actually painful enough to matter? Product Hunt gives you that signal fast — and as an indie developer with no marketing budget, honest community feedback is everything.
The answer, based on launch day, seems to be yes.
Launch day results
I launched on March 5, 2026 — and within the first hours the extension was climbing the Product Hunt rankings. By the time I checked the dashboard, it had hit #23 of the day in the Chrome Extensions category.
For a first-ever Product Hunt launch — solo, zero paid promotion, no existing audience, built purely to scratch my own itch — I'll take it.
The feedback in the comments validated everything. Developers using Gemini for code generation had exactly the same problem I had. The scrolling. The manual copy-paste. The time wasted collecting output that the AI already did the hard work to generate.
Who is Gemini Code Harvester for?
If any of these sound familiar, this extension is for you:
- You use Gemini AI to generate code for web apps, scripts, or full projects
- You find yourself scrolling back through long chats to find specific files
- You've copy-pasted code from Gemini more than three times in one session
- You want your AI-generated code organised and ready to open in VS Code without manual assembly
- You care about privacy — you don't want a third-party tool reading your prompts
It works with every file type Gemini outputs — JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS, TypeScript, Markdown, SQL, and more. If Gemini wrote it inside a code block, Harvester can collect it.
How to support the launch
If you use Gemini for development work — or know someone who does — the best thing you can do right now is head to my Product Hunt page and leave an upvote. It takes five seconds and it helps a solo indie developer reach more people who are dealing with the same workflow problem.
