How to record your screen online in 4 steps
- Choose your settings. Pick WebM or MP4, decide whether to record your microphone, and set the quality: Low, Medium or High.
- Press Start Recording. Your browser asks what to share — your whole screen, one window or one browser tab. Pick one and confirm.
- Record. Use Pause if you need a break, and Stop when you are done.
- Preview and download. Watch your recording right on the page, then press Download to save it.
Which settings should you pick?
- WebM or MP4? MP4 plays almost everywhere, including phones and most video editors. WebM works well in browsers and is fine if you only need to watch it on a computer.
- Microphone or no audio? Turn the microphone on to talk over what you show, like in a tutorial. Leave it off for a silent clip.
- Quality. Medium is balanced and good for most recordings. Choose High for small text or fast movement, and Low for the smallest file.
Good to know before you start
- Computer sound is recorded only if you share it. In the browser's picker, tick "Share audio" (tab sound everywhere, whole-computer sound on Windows and ChromeOS). Choosing one window never includes sound.
- Works on computers only, not on phones or tablets.
- The recording stays in the browser until you download it. If you close or reload the tab, it is lost (the browser warns you first).
- Protected video, such as streaming services, records as a black picture.
- High quality makes big files (about 75 MB per minute). If your player can't open WebM, pick MP4 where the browser offers it.
