WebP to JPG Converter Free Online — No Upload, No Sign-Up

Saved a picture and it came out as a .webp that nothing will open? Here is how to turn it into JPG or PNG in a few clicks, which one to pick, and why renaming the file doesn't work.

The quick answer

  • Open the Image Converter, drop in your .webp files, choose JPG and press Convert. It takes a few seconds.
  • Choose PNG instead if the picture has a see-through background, like a logo or a sticker. JPG fills see-through areas with white.
  • Nothing is uploaded and there is no account. Up to 25 pictures at a time, and with several you get them in one ZIP file.
  • Renaming the file from .webp to .jpg does not work. The picture inside has to be converted.

You saved a picture from a website and it landed on your computer as a .webp file. Now your photo editor shrugs at it, the upload form says "unsupported file type", or the print shop's page refuses it. WebP is a picture format made for websites, and plenty of programs outside the browser still do not know it. The free GetPlugzz Image Converter turns WebP into JPG or PNG in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, nothing is installed, and you do not need an account.

How to convert WebP to JPG in three clicks

  1. Add your pictures. Drag the .webp files onto the box, or click it and pick them from your folder. Up to 25 at a time.
  2. Choose the format. Pick JPG for something that opens everywhere, or PNG if you need to keep a see-through background. With JPG a Quality slider appears, set to 88% to start with.
  3. Press Convert. One picture is saved as a single file. Several are packed into one ZIP, and the tool shows the total size before and after, so you can see how much space you saved or spent.

The size of the picture in pixels does not change: the width and height stay exactly as they were, only the file type is different. If you also need it smaller, run it through the Image Resizer afterwards.

Why you got a WebP file (and why it won't open)

WebP was created by Google to make the pictures on websites lighter, so pages load faster. Chrome and the other modern browsers show it happily, and when you right-click a picture and save it, many websites hand you a .webp. The trouble starts once the picture leaves the browser. Some older programs, many upload forms, printing services and apps only know the classic formats, JPG and PNG.

Think of a travel plug adapter. The picture is perfectly fine; the socket you are plugging it into just has a different shape. Converting it is the adapter.

JPG or PNG: which one should you choose?

  • JPG is the right choice for photos and for sending or uploading. The files are small and every program, phone and website opens them. It has no see-through areas, so a transparent background turns white.
  • PNG is the right choice for logos, icons, screenshots and stickers, anything with a see-through background or sharp text. Nothing is trimmed, so it stays crisp, but the file is bigger.

Not sure whether your picture has a see-through background? Pick PNG. It is the safe option, only heavier. You can always make a JPG from it later.

Can I just rename the file from .webp to .jpg?

It can look like it works, but renaming only changes the label on the box, not what is inside. A few programs open the file anyway; many others, and most upload forms, check the inside and refuse it, or open a broken picture. Convert it properly instead.

Will converting lose quality?

Going from WebP to PNG loses nothing more. Going to JPG compresses the picture one more time, trimming detail you can barely see, and the Quality slider decides how much: higher means a bigger file that looks closer to the original, lower means a smaller, slightly softer one. 88% is a good middle. Keep it high for pictures you care about, and lower it when you just need something light enough to email.

One honest limit: converting cannot bring back detail that was already trimmed when the WebP was made. It just stops the picture from losing more.

When you'd actually need this

  • Pictures saved from websites that you want to open in an older editor or program.
  • Forms and listings that only accept JPG or PNG: job applications, marketplaces, school portals.
  • Print shops and photo services that reject WebP files.
  • Sending a picture to someone whose phone or computer cannot open WebP.
  • The other direction too: the same tool makes WebP out of JPG and PNG, for lighter website pictures.

Good to know before you start

  • Up to 25 pictures at a time. Convert as many rounds as you like. With more than one, you get a ZIP.
  • A see-through background turns white in JPG. Choose PNG to keep it.
  • Animated WebP files give only their first frame. A moving picture becomes a still.
  • Pictures are re-encoded, so location and other hidden data are not kept, and the colour profile is dropped.
  • Everything runs in your browser; an extremely large picture can fail on a computer with little memory.

FAQ

Yes. There is no account and no watermark, and you can convert as many pictures as you like, up to 25 at a time.

No. The conversion happens inside your browser, on your own computer. Your pictures never leave your device.

In PNG, yes. In JPG, no: JPG cannot be see-through, so transparent areas become white. If your picture has a transparent background, choose PNG.

Drag the file into a browser window, for example Chrome. Browsers open WebP. To use the picture in other programs or upload it somewhere, convert it.

Yes. Pick WebP as the output format. It usually gives the smallest files, which is handy for website pictures.
